Who we are

Copy Symbol is a free special-character reference operated by an individual. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to hello.youmightnotneed@gmail.com.

What we collect

You do not need an account to use this site, and we do not ask for your name, email address or any other personal detail in order to browse or copy characters. Characters you copy are placed on your device’s clipboard by your own browser — they are never sent to us, and we have no record of what you copied.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which may include your IP address, browser and operating system, the pages you requested and the time of the request. These logs exist to keep the site running securely and to diagnose faults, and they are not used to build a profile of you.

Cookies

Copy Symbol sets no cookies of its own. We use no login cookies, no preference cookies and no first-party tracking. The only cookies that may be set on this site come from our advertising provider, described below.

Advertising

This site is funded by advertising delivered through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set cookies or read device identifiers to serve ads, to measure whether an ad worked, and to limit how often you see the same one.

Google may use these cookies to show you personalised ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. No advertising cookie is set before you accept: when you first arrive, advertising storage is switched off, and it stays off unless you choose Accept in the cookie banner.

You can change or withdraw that choice at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of any page. Declining leaves the site fully usable — every character on it can still be copied.

You can review and adjust how Google personalises advertising at Google Ads Settings, including turning personalisation off entirely. Google explains how it handles data from sites that use its products at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also opt out of personalised advertising from participating vendors at optout.aboutads.info.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to understand which pages are useful and which characters people look for. It does not set cookies, does not collect personal data and does not follow you across other websites, so it runs without asking for your consent. What we see is aggregate: how many people visited a page, roughly where in the world they were, which site sent them, and which outbound links were clicked.

How long data is kept

Your cookie choice is stored in your own browser, not on our servers, and you can clear it at any time along with your other site data. Server logs are kept only as long as they are useful for security and troubleshooting, and are then deleted or overwritten by our hosting provider. Aggregate analytics contain no personal data and may be kept indefinitely. Cookies set by advertising partners expire on their own schedule, which you can inspect and clear in your browser at any time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to certain processing, and to complain to your national data protection authority. Visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR; residents of California and several other US states have comparable rights under local law.

Because this site has no accounts and sets no first-party cookies, the only data connected to you is normally server log data and whatever your browser holds from advertising cookies. Write to hello.youmightnotneed@gmail.com to exercise any of these rights and we will respond as quickly as we reasonably can.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties beyond the advertising and analytics providers named above.

Children

This site is a general-audience reference and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes — for example if an advertising or analytics provider is added or replaced. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent update.
